Olympic fountain

Today was nice and hot, with not specific destinations to hit, so we went to the fountain/splash pad at the Olympic park before and after nap.  It is hard to tell from the photos, but the fountain is shaped like the Olympic rings, and it sprays the water in funny patterns. Children are actually encouraged to play in there, we were just the first ones there this morning (there were about 100 kids when we came back in the afternoon).

Then we went back to the same "mountain" park for the third day in a row. The kids are getting bolder with their mountain climbing every day. The basketball jerseys were an absolute must given the climate. Also Ellis insisted that we all wear our basketball jerseys, so I didn't really have a choice.

Kristin met us at the fountain during out afternoon splash sesh and we played so long that we decided to go out for supper at a nearby brew pub. It was pretty tasty, and the kids meals came with ice cream, so over all a success.

Georgia Aquarium

Today we went to the same park as yesterday morning while we waited for the aquarium to open.  The Georgia aquarium is pretty similar to the Toronto aquarium, but a little bit bigger and better in every way, plus there's a dolphin jumping show.

 Our night was interrupted by a surprisingly quiet fire alarm around 10 pm.  The kids were fast asleep so we just carried them down the stairs of our apartment and chilled outside until the fire fighters confirmed that it was a false alarm. Jasper woke up eventually and I told him to go back to sleep, that he was just having a dream about fire trucks, just like every other night.

Children's Museum of Atlanta

Kristin's conference started today, so Pat took the kids out for some fun times at the Atlanta children's museum.  It was free entry for fathers on Father's Day.  The kids had a good time, and demanded that we go back after lunch and nap at the apartment, which is only a 5 minute walk away.

The Olympic games park is right across the street, and it has some nice playgrounds, although there were still a few homeless dudes napping in them when we first got there.

Kristin met us there when her conference was done and we went back to our apartment for supper.

Cottage visit

We went up to the cottage for the weekend and Pat and the kids stayed for until Wednesday (because Pat ain't got no job) while Kristin went home Sunday night to go to work.

The weather was pretty good and everyone had a good time, but there were very few fish to be seen. A raccoon came and ate all of the live minnows out of Pat's bucket in the middle of the night too.  So no photos of huge pike this time around, perhaps later in the season. 

On the bright side, Ellis learned to sleep without being comforted by her Mommy which has led to her finally sleeping through the night for the first time in her stupid life.

DTW- ATL

Today, we were off on our next adventure. I'm have a conference in Atlanta this week, and Pat and the kids came along. After some nasty Detroit traffic, we arrived late at our airport hotel, where Jasper had is own gown up bed.

We had a reasonable 11:00am flight, that went much better than this picture depicts. The flight was only an hour and a half- no problem!

 The kids fell asleep almost immediately after arriving, so we took the scenic route through the airport to get our bags.

There was an Atlanta history section,

 an art installation,

 and a bunch of statues.

 The kids slept through the whole thing, and the whole subway ride to our downtown apartment.

After a long, hot walk to the grocery store, we had a typical post- flight meal of pizza and cucumbers.
