The weather was much better today, so we went in two groups over to the Rialto fish and produce market. Ellis did not like the smell. They bought some tuna and salmon for dinner, as well as some veggies including a purple cauliflower.
It was sunny but a bit chilly this morning, so a café stop to warm up was also needed.
Pat and I went to the same area with Penny, also hitting the market for some veggies and a coffee stop.
A look at the garbage barge was also on the itinerary for the morning. Today it was in a much narrower canal collecting garbage from the neighbouring homes and businesses.
In the afternoon, we walked down to San Marco square to do a tour of the Doge's Palace. We hired a guide who specialized in tours for kids, and she took the first picture of all 10 of us from this trip.
The guide was really great, she had a booklet with stickers and puzzles and clues for the kids to solve throughout the museum. It was based on Casa Nova's escape from the prison that is attached to the Doge's palace. There was even a prize of precious jewels (smarties) at the end.
Jasper and Ellis were really engaged in the tour's activities, and I think the adults got a fair bit out of the tour too. Unfortunately, it was right in the middle of Oscar's nap time, so he struggled a bit and ended up falling asleep in my arms about halfway through. He is getting pretty heavy!
Penny also slept through most of the tour, waking up to power crawl around the courtyard of the palace, while Jasper ran laps to burn some energy.
We emerged from the palace right at sunset,
...and of course had to stop for some gelato on the way home. Our guide recommended a place on our walk home. By the time we got there it was quite dark and had cooled down a fair bit.
