Day 58: Tejeda

Today we drove right into the middle of Gran Canaria to the town of Tejeda. The town is known for almonds, so we bought some almond-based goodies at the bakery and had a coffee looking out over the valley.
I think today is the day we can say that Ellis definitely walks. She is taking more than a couple steps at a time now and is getting pretty confident on her feet.
A little up the road, we went to Cruz de Tejeda to take a little hike.
There were lots chickens in the tourist area of the village and Jasper liked to follow them around. We even saw some baby chicks on our way back to the car.
There had been a forest fire recently along the trail and that combined with the volcanic rocks madethe whole scene looked pretty apocalyptic.
We didn't walk too far, but we had pretty amazing views of the valley, Roque Nublo and even El Teide from Tenerife off in the distance.
We stopped for a picnic lunch once we found a flat spot that wasn't burnt. Jasper wanted to find a walking stick to be just like his daddy.
Aunt Kate carried Jasper back down the hike in the "motorcycle" carrier.
Back at the house, Jasper got right back into one of his farming games. This time he was a walnut farmer, picking and cracking (and eating) walnuts.
There is an outdoor hallway at our house that is perfect for Ellis to practice her walking.
We don't have a bathtub, bur there is a big laundry tub that worked just fine.
