Day 21- Baby's first Grind

Route: Surrey- North Vancouver- Surrey- Langley- Surrey
Distance Driven: 164 km

Pat decided that he wanted to take Jasper up the Grouse Grind. He wanted to be able to tell Jasper that he was fit enough to carry him up the mountain. The Grind is a 2.9 km hike with an 853 m elevation gain. It was a strange role reversal, because I was the one who wasn't sure it was a good idea. We loaded up with lots of snacks and water, strapped Jasper in the front carrier and hit the trail.

Once again, Jasper was a popular guy. Pat got lots of "do you have room for one more?", a few handshakes, and one guy even took his picture. We climbed the trail slow and steady, stopping a few times to give Jasper a break from the carrier (and us a break from hiking!).  It was definitely a lot more challenging than last time, even without carrying the baby. It took us 1 hour and 29 minutes to complete the hike. I was glad to reach the top, and happy that we decided to try the hike.
We made it to the top!
After a stop at MEC to pick up some missing tent pegs, we made it back to Surrey just in time to head out on our evening activities with our hosts, Aaryn and Stu.  First stop was an Indian restaurant just around the corner, where we ate our weight in food, then out to Langley to go to the drive in theatre. It had been a long time since either of us had been to the drive in.  The movie was Inside Out, which was really sweet and clever.

We have had a great time staying with Aaryn and Stu here in Surrey. They are both naturals with the baby, and I know they will make great parents. Hopefully we will meet up again soon!
