Day 22- Gabriola Island

Route: Surrey- Nanaimo- Gabriola
Distance driven: 45 km
Distance sailed: 95 km

We woke up early this morning to catch the ferry from Tsawwassen to Nanaimo. The ferry was about 2 hours long and was a good warm up for our long trips up the coast starting next week.  We drove right from one ferry terminal to the next and got onto the Gabriola Island ferry.
Jasper and Pat on the ferry.
Aunt Pat met us when we got off the ferry and took us to Alex's place. He has been very generous to let us stay with him on the island for a few days.  He also made us two delicious vegetarian meals of tomato soup and ratatouille.
Great Aunt Pat and Jasper reading.
At the beach.
After some baby play time and a short walk to check out the area, we went to "Secret Beach" for a swim.  The water was about as cold as Lake Huron, and there was tons of interesting sea life to check out.  We saw lots of starfish, a crab and some anemones. The pictures I took don't really do justice to the beauty of Gabriola.  Luckily, we're here for a few days, so I will keep trying to take better ones.
