Day 35- Into Yukon!

Route: Skagway, Alaska-Whitehorse, Yukon
Distance driven: 176 km

We made it to Whitehorse! I'll admit, there were some points on the trip when I wasn't sure if we'd make it all the way, but here we are!

The day started off with breakfast in Skagway with 7000 of our closest Alaskan Cruise friends. The little town of 800 had been inundated with a Disney cruise and another cruise ship and the streets were packed.
Salmon swimming upstream.
To get away from the crowds, we hiked up to Lower Dewey Lake on the edge of town. We were treated to good views of the town and a glassy lake reflecting the mountains. Pat was excited to see the salmon swimming upstream to spawn. We could see at least 50 just from the bridge over the creek.

The hike around the lake got a bit  rougher, but Pat did well with the baby carrier on, and Jasper was happy as a clam.
Some of the hike wasn't ideal for baby carrying
After a peanut butter and jam picnic, we hit the road towards Whitehorse. The border guard was quite chatty about the Blue Jays and didn't even want to lift up the blanket covering Jasper's car seat to make sure there was actually a baby in there.
The highway into Whitehorse.
The drive from Skagway to Whitehorse was one of the most spectacular I've seen. Jasper was asleep, so I only took a couple photos out the window. The trees are starting to turn yellow here already, so the yellow and green was a great contrast with the rocks and snow and water.
One of many snow capped mountains.
We arrived to Katie and Jason's new house in Whitehorse and they had prepared a delicious lasagna dinner for us. Looking forward to adventuring around the Yukon this weekend and spending the week with them!
