Day 47- Icefields Parkway

Route: Jasper- Mosquito Creek
Distance driven: 205 km

We woke up this morning in the pouring rain and cold, very happy that we'd stayed in a yurt and not a tent for the night. The double bunk bed set up worked well to keep Jasper warm between us.
Warm and cozy in the yurt.
The rain thwarted some of our hiking plans for the day, so instead we went into Jasper to get coffee, and shop for cheesy Jasper souvenirs. We decided on an Alberta licence plate that says JASPER. Maybe we can put it up on his bedroom door.
Making the best of a rainy day.
We also went for a swim at the local pool. It was lane swim/ parent and tot swim, so I was able to swim a bit while Pat and Jasper played in the kiddie pool.

After lunch the weather started to clear, so we decided to take advantage and head down the Icefields Parkway. Jasper fell asleep, but we wanted to see Athabasca Falls, so we just took his whole car seat with us on the short hike.
At Athabasca Falls.
While driving down the parkway, our trip odometer rolled over 10 000 km and I was able to snap a picture. I think we'll be around 14 000 by the end of the trip.

We stopped at the Athabasca glacier to go for a short hike up the moraine. Before we set out, Jasper checked out the animal statues in the parking lot.
Jasper and the mountain goat.
A baby bear friend, almost the right size.
Family photo at the foot of the glacier.
Back on the road, we drove through some pretty heavy snow squalls. I felt bad for all the people in rental RVs. We stopped at the Mosquito Creek Wilderness hostel for the night, where we met a nice couple from Seattle.

  1. It looks like the car is driving itself in the last photo.
